In Rockwood Cares

Rockwood, in partnership with The Butterfly Foundation, supports the memory of Dr. Merrill, the father of our Partner Joe Merrill, by committing $10,000 in matching funds to provide laptops for low-income students in the Denver Area.

PCs for People recently partnered with the state of Colorado to be the official provider of laptops to low-income families and children who need them for their schooling needs (see this website for more details). Since this announcement, PCs for People has been inundated with requests from qualified low-income families and cannot keep up with demand.

To close the digital divide between Colorado families, and in memory of Dr. Merrill, we are matching up to $10,000 to provide refurbished computers and internet access to underprivileged children in Colorado. The campaign’s school partner, Aurora Public Schools, has identified several ACTION Zone schools with more than 80% of students qualified for Free and Reduced Lunch and there are more than 1,000 unmet needs. After each $50 donation is matched, one child will be able to receive a refurbished computer.

There are three easy ways to support the campaign:

  • Give on The Butterfly Foundation donation website*: Here is the link. (*Please make sure the donation is not anonymous and enter “PCs for People” in the section where you can make the donation in honor of someone.)
  • Visit the campaign’s Facebook page here (no fees, and you will be issued a receipt)
  • Mail a check* ** to The Butterfly Foundation – EIN 501(c)3# is 27-0483016. Checks made out to The Butterfly Foundation may be mailed to the following address:

PCs for People also is in need of computer donations. The organization provides a sample impact report that will show exactly where each donated PC is going. The organization has locations and pick-up/delivery readiness in MN, CO and OH (coming soon in MD and KS), and has a mechanism for pick-up and delivery in all contiguous states. PCs for People has the highest levels of certification for its services (NAID and R2). Below are some videos that explain more about the organization and its services to both companies and the community:
