Brett operates from the firm's New York office.  Brett co-founded RockWood in 1999 to focus on the acquisition of companies in the lower middle market. Prior to forming RockWood, Brett worked as an investment banker in the Mergers & Acquisitions group of Lehman Brothers' New York office, and served as Controller of Jacobson Machine Works, a distressed company owned by the private equity firm of Goldner, Hawn, Johnson & Morrison. Brett also served in an advisory role in the sale of his family-controlled pharmaceutical services company to an industry consolidator backed by the private equity firm of Golder, Thoma, Cressy, Rauner. Brett began his career as a financial consultant and Certified Public Accountant at Grant Thornton LLP and Arthur Andersen LLP. Brett is currently on the Board of Directors of DeZURIK Water Controls, Artistic Holdings, XL Specialized Trailers and ACS-Amistco.

Brett received a B.A. with dual degrees in finance and accounting from the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. Brett is a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (New York Chapter) and is an adjunct professor at his undergraduate alma mater, where he teaches an M.B.A. course on private equity. Brett currently lives in New York City.
